WELCOME TO COUNTRY / ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

The following are guidelines developed for the 14th World Conference on Injury Prevention & Safety Promotion (the conference) members and staff.

Statement of Acknowledgement

City of Adelaide acknowledges that we are meeting on the traditional country of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains and pays respect to Elders past and present. We recognize and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs and relationship with the land. We acknowledge that they are of continuing importance to the Kaurna people living today.

Jack Kanya Kudnitya Buckskin.png

Jack Kanya Kudnuitya Buckskin is a proud Kaurna and Narungga man who has dedicated his life to learning and passing on his knowledge and language of the Adelaide Plains to future generations of Kaurna people. Jack currently works with Tauondi Aboriginal College in Port Adelaide as an Aboriginal Cultural Service Mentor, and has been a strong icon in the revitalisation process of Kaurna language through managing and performing song and dance with Kuma Kaaru Cultural Services and through teaching Kaurna language. He believes that as Kaurna language has come from the land this is the only place in the world you will find it; it was in the country before we were born and it is our duty to ensure it continues by learning and using it together.

UKARIA Cultural Centre, Adelaide

UKARIA Cultural Centre is perched on the hillside of the Ngeringa property in the picturesque Adelaide Hills just outside Mount Barker. Concerts have been hosted on the property for acclaimed national and international artists since the mid-1990s. In 2014 the modest concert room was demolished and replaced with a magnificent 220-seat concert hall purpose built for chamber music. Great care has been taken to ensure that the new hall has superb acoustics without compromising the spectacular sweeping views over the valley and up to the Mt Barker Summit.

In 1985, Ulrike Klein AO co-founded the internationally acclaimed skincare label, Jurlique. The state-of-the-art and environmentally sustainable UKARIA Cultural Centre, which opened on 29 August 2015, was funded by the Klein Family and built on what was once the Jurlique Farm, where many of the herbs, flowers and plants were grown for natural skin care products. Renowned for using the best in biodynamic and organic ingredients, these values have influenced the design and vision for the UKARIA Cultural Centre and are incorporated into the hospitality product offering.

The Centre is located just 40km from the Adelaide CBD and is an easy drive on the South Eastern Freeway, which takes approximately 40 minutes: take the Bald Hills Road exit, which bypasses the township of Mount Barker and takes you straight to UKARIA's tranquil rural setting, surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards.
