Canada Road Safety Week

Canada Road Safety Week is the national police enforcement campaign that runs for seven days in May and ends on the Victoria Day holiday Monday. Led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, it puts officers on the road against impaired, distracted and aggressive driving and people travelling unbelted, and asks drivers to take responsibility for how they drive before the summer season starts.

The organiser has not announced the next dates. This page will carry them as soon as Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) Traffic Safety Committee publishes them.

Also known as: CRSW, Canada's Road Safety Week.

Where it came from

Canada Road Safety Week is an enforcement-driven national campaign led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police through its Traffic Safety Committee. Police services across the country run it over seven days in May, ending on the Victoria Day holiday Monday, the start of the summer driving season. The campaign targets four behaviours: impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving and driving without a seatbelt. The CACP presents it as part of the national effort behind Canada's Road Safety Strategy.

The organiser’s account of the day

How organisations mark it

  • Run the week's enforcement plan: roadside checks aimed at impaired and distracted driving, speed and seatbelt use.
  • Use the CACP campaign toolkit - the poster, the social media content and the national facts and statistics sheet.
  • Publish local collision and enforcement figures so residents can see what is happening on their own roads.
  • Brief fleet and shift drivers on the four behaviours the campaign targets before the long weekend.
  • Make safe rides visible before the Victoria Day weekend, not after people have already gone out.
