National Electrical Safety Month
National Electrical Safety Month runs through May in the United States. The Electrical Safety Foundation International picks a set of electrical hazards each year and publishes free infographics, videos and workplace materials on them, and many state governors issue proclamations. Employers, utilities and schools use the month to talk about overhead lines, qualified workers, counterfeit equipment and, increasingly, lithium-ion batteries and charging.

Where it came from
The Electrical Safety Foundation International is a non-profit set up to prevent electrically related injuries, deaths and fires, and it has led National Electrical Safety Month each May since 1998, which made 2025 the campaign's 28th year. ESFI picks a handful of topics each year, builds free infographics, videos and workplace materials around them, and asks state governors to proclaim May as National Electrical Safety Month so the campaign reaches beyond the electrical trades.
First observed in 1998.
How organisations mark it
- Share the year's ESFI infographics and video shorts in team briefings and on staff noticeboards.
- Check that anyone working on or near energised equipment is a qualified worker under your procedures.
- Audit chargers, extension leads and rechargeable devices for damage and missing test-lab certification.
- Run a look-up-and-live briefing on overhead powerlines for anyone working outdoors or with plant.
- Ask your state governor's office about a proclamation and use it to launch local outreach.
