National Stalking Awareness Month
National Stalking Awareness Month runs through January in the United States, coordinated by the Stalking Prevention, Awareness, and Resource Center. It exists because stalking is common, is often missed by the agencies victims turn to, and usually runs alongside other abuse. SPARC gives police, prosecutors, campuses and victim services training and materials for the month, and marks a Day of Action on 18 January.

Where it came from
National Stalking Awareness Month is coordinated each January by the Stalking Prevention, Awareness, and Resource Center, a project of AEquitas funded by the United States Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women. SPARC's work is aimed at the professionals victims reach first - police, prosecutors, courts, campus staff, health and victim services - and the month is its annual push to have stalking recognised, named and acted on. A Day of Action falls on 18 January. SPARC called January 2025 the twenty-first annual observance.
How organisations mark it
- Take SPARC's training, or one of its recorded webinars, with the team that receives these reports.
- Check that your forms and case notes capture a course of conduct over time rather than a series of separate incidents.
- Run the 18 January Day of Action with local partners.
- Add stalking to induction for campus, healthcare and victim services staff, not just for police and prosecutors.
- Review how your service documents evidence and builds safety plans with people who report being stalked.
Why this exists

1.25 milliondeaths a year from violence-related injuries“Of the 4.4 million injury-related deaths, unintentional injuries take the lives of 3.16 million people every year and violence-related injuries kill 1.25 million people every year.”
