Safeguarding Adults Week
Safeguarding Adults Week falls in November and is run by the Ann Craft Trust for organisations that work with adults at risk. Each day takes a theme — listening and person-centred conversations, choice and control, particular forms of abuse — and partners run free seminars, podcasts and team discussions around them. It is aimed at care providers, sports clubs, housing associations, health services and anyone whose staff might be the first to notice that something is wrong.

Where it came from
The Ann Craft Trust is a national charity that works to reduce the risk of abuse of adults at risk, through training, safeguarding practice reviews and research with bodies including the Forced Marriage Unit and the Department of Health. It runs Safeguarding Adults Week each November so that organisations across health, care, sport and the voluntary sector explore a different safeguarding theme each day and compare how they prevent, recognise and report harm.
How organisations mark it
- Use the free daily themes and resources to run a short team discussion each day of the week.
- Check that everyone knows who your safeguarding lead is and exactly how to raise a concern about an adult at risk.
- Review your safeguarding policy against the week's theme and note what you would actually do differently.
- Book onto the Trust's free online seminars and the annual safeguarding adults conference.
- Ask the people you support what would make them feel safe, and record what they say.
