How organisations mark it

  • Hold the Fire Service Day parade and wreath-laying on 14 April and keep two minutes' silence for firefighters killed on duty.
  • Open fire stations to the public and take appliances, ladders and rescue kit out to schools and markets.
  • Run a full evacuation drill on every floor and time it against the site emergency plan.
  • Work through the National Safety Council of India's fire and electrical safety checklist audit and close the gaps it finds.
  • Order the Council's Fire Service Week badges, banners and worker handbooks and brief every shift on what to do when an alarm sounds.
