How organisations mark it

  • Hold the pledge ceremony on the opening day with clinical and non-clinical staff together.
  • Complete a fire and electrical safety audit of the facility and file it where the Ministry asks.
  • Run mock evacuation drills in the high-risk areas: intensive care, neonatal and paediatric units and operating theatres.
  • Put staff through the iGOT fire safety course and keep a record of who has completed it.
  • Check that escape routes, fire doors, alarms and extinguishers are clear, serviced and signed.
