Fire Safety Week in Health Facilities (India)
Fire Safety Week is the Union Health Ministry's national campaign on fire safety in hospitals and clinics. The dates move each year: 21 to 25 April in 2025, and 4 to 10 May in 2026. Health facilities take a pledge, audit their fire and electrical systems, run evacuation drills in wards, intensive care and operating theatres, and train staff on getting patients out.
The organiser has not announced the next dates. This page will carry them as soon as Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India publishes them.
When it falls
Dates are announced by the organiser each year.
- Fire Safety Week (health, India) 2026 — 4–10 May 2026 Confirmed
- Fire Safety Week (health, India) 2025 — 21–25 April 2025 Confirmed
Also known as: Fire Safety Week, Pan-India Fire Safety Week.
Where it came from
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched a nationwide Fire Safety Week in April 2025, working with every state and union territory and with other central ministries, to push fire and electrical safety in public and private health facilities. The week opens with a pledge ceremony led by the Union Health Secretary and is built around fire safety audits, ward evacuation drills and staff training. In 2026 the Ministry used the week to release national guidelines on fire and life safety in healthcare facilities, with extra protocols for intensive care, neonatal and paediatric units and operating theatres.
First observed in 2025.
How organisations mark it
- Hold the pledge ceremony on the opening day with clinical and non-clinical staff together.
- Complete a fire and electrical safety audit of the facility and file it where the Ministry asks.
- Run mock evacuation drills in the high-risk areas: intensive care, neonatal and paediatric units and operating theatres.
- Put staff through the iGOT fire safety course and keep a record of who has completed it.
- Check that escape routes, fire doors, alarms and extinguishers are clear, serviced and signed.
