The third and final year of the 2024 to 2026 theme. IASP has not yet announced the theme for the next cycle.
Why the day exists
Violence & self-harm
1.25 milliondeaths a year from violence-related injuries“Of the 4.4 million injury-related deaths, unintentional injuries take the lives of 3.16 million people every year and violence-related injuries kill 1.25 million people every year.”
How organisations mark it
- Light a candle near a window on the evening of 10 September in support of people bereaved by suicide and those who have survived an attempt.
- Download the IASP campaign pack and use its materials in staff briefings, school lessons and community events.
- Train managers and frontline staff to notice when someone is struggling and to ask about it directly.
- Add your event to the IASP events directory so people nearby can find and join it.
- Check that your organisation's policies make it straightforward for staff to ask for mental health support, and that everyone knows how to reach local crisis services.
