Why the day exists

How organisations mark it
- Review antimicrobial prescribing against the WHO access, watch and reserve categories and report where your service sits.
- Run an antimicrobial stewardship round with clinical teams and take one avoidable prescription apart.
- Tie the week to infection prevention basics - hand hygiene, device care, cleaning - since infections prevented are antimicrobials not needed.
- Brief farm and veterinary staff on prescribing and waste practices under the same One Health message.
- Publish local resistance surveillance so clinicians can see what is happening in their own patients.
