CONFERENCE CONVENOR WELCOME
Welcome from the Conference Convenor
Dear Friends, Colleagues and Compatriots,
It is my great privilege to welcome you to the 14th World Conference on Injury Prevention & Safety Promotion ‘Safety 2022’, after a delayed start due to COVID. I am excited to extend an invite across the globe to all who work, research, develop policy or are interested in the prevention of injury and the promotion of safety. Safety 2022 will be held over three and a half days at the Adelaide Convention Centre in South Australia from Sunday 27th to Wednesday 30th November 2022.
The conference will be run as a hybrid conference to ensure all can participate. For those who are able to attend in person we encourage you to come for longer as there will be workshops, field trips and satellite events before and after the Conference, in addition there is much to see and experience while in Adelaide, and Australia.
The theme is ‘Reconnecting, reinvigorating, reimagining Injury Prevention. We sit of the nexus of major changes across the globe with technology significantly embedded in our lives, working conditions changing with the gig economy, climate change, increasing global population, self-driving cars, and wider recognition of violence and sexual harassment thanks to movements such as #MeToo. The future holds many opportunities and also on-going challenges for all who work in injury prevention and in this conference we want to explore what action we are going to need to do to make the world a safe place.
This conference aims to bring together people from across the globe to explore, discuss, and develop injury prevention strategies. To allow for us to maximize our time together there will be a wide range of presentation types from key note speakers to 3 minute conversation starters. The conference will hold workshops pre, post and during the conference, there will be debates, meetings, site visits, conference declarations, and on the weekend following a writing retreat.
We are looking for a range of presentation types from all who work in injury prevention, and as such have set up the abstract process to include research, policy, and program delivery (including evaluation) so we hear from all and learn from each other, I therefore encourage you to submit an abstract and be part of this great conference.
Adelaide is a perfect venue to hold the conference, it is one of the safest cities in world, with great public transport (including a free tram service in the city), a wide variety of affordable accommodation within walking distance of the venue, great food and friendly people. The Adelaide Convention Centre is working hard on being a sustainable business and meeting environmental standards.
The Public Health Association of Australia is the host organisation, however we are working closely with the World Health Organization, Australasian Injury Prevention Network (AIPN) and Australasian University Safety Association (AUSA) to bring you the best possible conference. It has been over 20 years since the conference was held in Australia and I am hoping a new generation of injury prevention professionals will be coming to the conference as well as some familiar faces.
While we are already planning a wide range of activities around the conference and I encourage you to contact us if you have an idea for a workshop or meeting or other activity which will enhance the conference. Pre and post conference meetings and workshop venues are available in and around the Adelaide Convention Centre and we can also see about having them virtually as well for those who cannot make it physically to Australia.
Put the dates of the 27th to 30th November 2022 aside to attend the conference including if you are attending virtually so you can be part of the first hybrid safety conference and the 14th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion.
We will keep you posted on what’s happening around the conference, and I look forward to meeting you in Adelaide in November 2022! (or online).
